Human Care

Circle of Concern
Lord of Life teams up with the West County Circle of Concern to help needy people in the Parkway, Rockwood, and Valley Park school districts.  The congregation conducts an ongoing food collection for the Circle’s food pantry.  Yellow Meal-A-Month bags are on the Circle of Concern barrel in the main entryway.  Take a bag, bring your contribution back in it (or any paper or plastic bag) and place it in the barrel. See the monthly newsletter Lifelines for specific items that are most needed each month.

Special activities take place within the Circle around Thanksgiving and Christmas.   The Circle also helps people with rent and utility payments as appropriate. The Circle is always looking for volunteers to work in their Valley Park office.  To learn how to volunteer, please check out their web site by clicking the underlined words above.
Stephen Ministry
Lord of Life has trained “Stephen Ministers” who provide one on one Christian care giving to people experiencing challenging times in their lives.  We try to have a training class every year.  If you are interested in taking the 50 hours of training please contact Pastor Jim Rogers via the Contact Us page.  Information about Stephen Ministry can be found in the revolving kiosk near the church entrance.  For more information about Stephen Ministry, click here

Lord of Life currently has fifteen trained and active Stephen Ministers.  In a typical week, these men and women give a combined 25 hours of their time in preparing for and carrying out distinctively Christian care to their care receivers.
EAGLES

Lord of Life’s Seniors group chose the name E.A.G.L.E.S.  EAGLES is an acronym for “Engaged Adults Growing, Learning, and Eagerly Serving.”  Most often the group gathers on the third Wednesday of the month.  Sometimes the gathering involves a special guest speaker such as the director of the St. Louis USO, or a representative from LCMS World Relief & Human Care who spoke about the LCMS mission in the Dominican Republic..  At other times the group gathers to travel together to some interesting place. The Abraham Lincoln Library & Museum in Springfield, Illinois, The Fox Theater, the Cathedral Bascilica, the St. Louis Botanical Gardens, the Daniel Boone Home near Defiance and the Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum in Altenburg, MO are some of the places recently visited.

Volunteering is an important aspect of the group.  Several EAGLES volunteer at the Bethesda Thrift Shop in Ballwin.  Others volunteer with Circle of Concern, St. Luke’s Hospital, etc.  EAGLES also has a number of people who stand ready to provide transportation to those who might need help getting to doctors appointments, therapies, etc.  A "Community Volunteer" booklet has recently been developed.  You can pick one up in the church entryway.

Ties That Bind
A quilting group meets every Tuesday.  While the group creates large intricate quilts it also creates and distributes dozens of smaller quilts, blankets, health kits, school kits, layettes, etc. to places around the globe through Lutheran World Relief. the group has chosed the name "Ties That Bind."  If you are interested in quilting, just show up in the church Fellowship Hall any Tuesday morning.

Ties That Bind recently packed up 76 quilts, 50 sewing kits, 12 layettes, 50 school kits and 20 health kits for Lutheran World Relief.  (Contents for the school kits were provided by Vacation Bible School students).  Even more recently, the group created 200 bags to hold health care products that were taken to the Dominican Republic in April by a mission team from Lord of Life.
